2018 LatinX Heritage Month!

Join our campus and the community to celebrate the culture and traditions of residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, and the Spanish-speaking nations in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

Originally observed in 1968 as Latinx Heritage Week under President Johnson, it was expanded by President Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 12 and ending October 26. 

2018 Events:

September 12: Kickoff Dinner at Heilman Dining Center. Come join us as we kick-off Latinx Heritage Month! Explore fine dining and other traditional cuisine based in Latinx tradition and culture 

September 13: Trio Brasilernho: Modlin Center. Mika Kaurismaki's 2005 documentary film, Brasileririnho pays tribute to choro, an overlooked and very important musical style that forms the basis for Brazilian bossa, samba, and more. Trio Brasileiro will participate in a post-film discussion. 4pm-Brown alley Room, 7pm: Performance, Carole Weinstein International Center, Commons (FREE)

September 23: Movie Screening and Dialogue: POSE EP 1. Pose is an American drama television series created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuck, and Steven Canals. The series involves LGBT culture in New York City. 

September 27: We Need to Talk: Fostering Viewpoint Diversity in Higher Education. 7pm, Queally Center. Jonathan Haidt, Social Psychologist, Researcher, and Author, The Coddling of the American Mind. 

September 28: Hispanic Gala: VMFA. Theme: Carnaval 

October 9: Diversity in the Workplace: Career and Cultural Awareness in the Workplace. 

October 18/19: Game Nights: Factuality

October 19: Café Con Leche- with Westhampton. 5:30pm in the Westhampton Living Room. Come join us for LatinX Fellowship over empanadas, coffee, crème, and other rich desserts. We will engage in an open discussion about what it means to be a representative of a diverse background and talks specifically about the issues the LatinX community face in the 21st Century. 

October 26: Connecting Women of Color Conference. Location TBA
